Airport RFS (Road-Feeder Service)

Airport RFS (Road-Feeder Service) is a vital link in the air cargo supply chain. At Trueways Logistics, our Airport RFS solution bridges the gap between air and road transport — ensuring your airfreight moves smoothly, efficiently, and securely, even when origin or destination points do not have full air service access.

What is Airport RFS?

Airport RFS refers to bonded trucking or road transport that connects satellites, regional airports, off-airport locations or remote origins/destinations with major air hubs. The service acts as the “first mile” or “last mile” in an air cargo journey: cargo is transported by road to/from airports under conditions that mimic air cargo service — with flight numbers, air waybills, customs handling, and high levels of security, so road transport becomes an integral part of the air-cargo process.

Key Benefits with Trueways’ Airport RFS

  • Expanded Reach
Trueways enables shippers to access air-cargo services even from areas without direct air freight operations. Your goods can be collected by road from remote or regional locations and delivered to the nearest major air hub.

  • Seamless Integration
RFS services are coordinated so that cargo meets onward air transport schedules — minimizing delays. Everything from space reservation (or booking) to customs paperwork is arranged to align road movement with flight schedules.

  • Cost Effectiveness
Instead of paying for inefficient routing or using small aircraft or aircharter from small airports, RFS offers a more economical way to move cargo over road legs, while still maintaining high airfreight standards for documentation, security, and speed.

  • Customs & Security Compliance
Since Airport RFS is often treated legally and operationally as part of the air cargo chain, Trueways ensures bonded trucking (if required), customs clearances en route, tracking, goods manifesting, secure handling, and cargo integrity throughout.

  • Flexibility in Cargo Types
Able to handle different cargo types — from pallets, ULDs, groupage shipments, hazardous or temperature sensitive goods, etc. — with appropriate vehicles, temperature controls, and handling protocols.

  • Visibility & Reliability
Trueways’ monitoring systems, tracking, documentation, and asset control ensure that despite the road segment, customers get visibility and reliability similar to pure air-cargo services.

How Trueways’ Airport RFS Works

    • Booking and Planning
Customer provides origin, destination, cargo details (weight, volume, type, packing, etc.), desired air-hub, flight schedule or timeline. Trueways plans the road-leg (first or last mile), schedules pickup so arrival/departure times align with air schedules, and ensures all necessary paperwork (customs, airway bill, manifest) is in order.

    • Vehicle Assignment & Fleet Prep
We assign the right type of truck / trailer (bonded, temperature controlled, etc.) and ensure handling equipment and packing are compatible with air cargo norms.

    • Pickup & Secure Transport
Cargo is picked up from the place of origin (or regional airport) and transported under secure, perhaps bonded, conditions to the air hub. Handling is optimized to protect cargo integrity (load securing, minimal handling, etc.).

    • Transfer to Air Hub / From Air Hub
At the air hub, Trueways ensures smooth off-loading (for inbound), handling, customs processing, and hand-over to the airline or air cargo facility. For outbound, cargo is transferred from airline facility onto our road feeder trucks under similar secure, documented operations.

    • Customs, Documentation & Compliance
Trueways handles all required documents — manifests, airway bills, customs paperwork, any special permits. When required, bonded status is maintained. Cargo is tracked, and we provide updates.

    • Final Delivery / Destination Handling
After the air leg, road feeder service carries the cargo from the hub to its final regional or remote destination, ensuring timely, safe delivery, with handling protocols intact and proof of delivery provided.
